We tend to think a comfortable sneaker needs lots of cushioning, padding and support.
But more isn’t necessarily better.
Sometimes comfort comes from having less shoe on your foot - less weight, less rigidity and more freedom to move naturally.
That’s one of the reasons TAYGRAs feel so different when you first put them on.
Flexibility Makes a Difference
Pick up a TAYGRA and one of the first things you’ll probably do is bend it.
Their soles are ridiculously flexible compared with many conventional sneakers, allowing the shoe to move with your foot rather than holding it in a rigid shape.
You notice it when you walk. You definitely notice it when you dance.
And once you get used to that freedom of movement, heavily structured shoes can feel very different.
Weight Matters Too
TAYGRAs are incredibly lightweight.
That might not sound particularly exciting until you've spent an entire day walking around in them - or you're packing a suitcase and every gram counts.
There isn't a bulky sole or heavy construction weighing your feet down, which is one of the reasons they're such an easy shoe for everyday.
The Right Fit Should Feel Good
Comfort also comes down to fit.
TAYGRAs can feel quite different from a conventional sneaker when you first put them on. Depending on the style, they can feel close-fitting or snug initially, and the soft uppers mould to your feet with wear.
The Classic Low has a little more structure, while the Corrida Low and Corridalta High have a softer, more sock-like feel.
If you're unsure which size or style will suit you, our Size & Fit Guide walks you through how to measure your feet and choose your TAYGRA size.
And because buying unfamiliar shoes online can feel like a bit of a gamble, our 21-Day Comfort Promise gives you time to try them properly at home before deciding they're right for you.
Different Feet Like Different Things
This bit matters: there isn't one shoe that's going to feel perfect on every foot.
Some people love a soft, barely-there shoe. Others prefer more structure. Foot shape, width and personal preference all play a part.
That's also why we don't think “comfortable” should mean piling on cushioning and calling it a day.
For us, what makes TAYGRAs comfortable is the combination of lightweight construction, flexibility and a shoe that can move with your foot.
The Pair I Wear On Repeat
For me, it's the Corrida Low.
I originally discovered TAYGRAs through dance, but the Corrida became the pair I reached for outside of dancing too.
They're soft, light and flexible, and I love how little shoe it feels like I'm actually wearing.
Your favourite might be completely different. That's why we stock three distinct TAYGRA styles rather than pretending there's one perfect sneaker for everyone.
So, What Makes a Sneaker Comfortable?
There's no universal formula.
But weight, flexibility, fit and freedom of movement are all worth paying attention to - not just how much cushioning a shoe has.
TAYGRAs take a very different approach from the bulky, heavily structured sneaker.
And that's exactly why we like them.
